LOST DOG OR CAT?
Charlotte County does have an animal control officer - Mike Shannon. He is responsible for picking up dogs running at large in Charlotte County and stray or unidentified cats within the town of St. Stephen. If you have lost a dog or cat, your first call should be to him. His number is 466-5031. You should contact vet clinics in our area (St. Stephen and St. Andrews) - sometimes an animal can be injured and picked up by someone passing by and brought to a vet clinic further away than you would think your animal could travel. We also have a Lost and Found list, so you should contact us as well. Also check Petfinder.com's 'lost and found' section in their classifieds.

HOW TO ADOPT
Adopting a pet is a long term commitment. Dogs live 8-12 years while cats can live an average of 15-20 years. During the time you own a pet, you may change jobs, move, get married or divorced, or have children. Don't let one of these events cause you to abandon or give away a pet. Pets become extremely attached to their owners and deserve to be treated with kindness and respect. Avoid hurting and causing undue stress to a helpless animal. Before you adopt, please seriously consider the long-term commitment involved.
Please contact us by email if you are a long distance phone call away.
During the adoption process, we will ask you questions about you, your family and your home and we will be glad to answer any questions you may have. Our adoption policy requires potential adopters to meet the animals in person, which means that all potential adopters must come to St. Stephen, NB. We do not ship animals anywhere. No animals will be held without an approved application form and adoption fee paid. Adoption fees can be paid by cash, cheque or online (use the 'Donation' button below). Please be aware, there is a minimum 24 hour waiting period after applications are received before an animal can go home. Applications are processed on a first come, first served basis. There may be adoptions pending on animals at any time. If an application falls through, we move on to the next applicant 'in line'.
Dogs -
The first step in the dog adoption process is sending us the application form. The form is available for download here. Please print, fill out, and fax to the attention of Gail at 506-466-9950. We prefer to have the application form in hand prior to potential adopters meeting the dogs as this allows us to review the application and check necessary references. This way potential adopters can know if their application is approved before making the trip to meet the dogs.
Cats -
All cats and kittens are spayed/neutered before they leave the shelter. The form is available for download here. You may print, fill out, and fax to the attention of Evie at 506-755-1327, or print in advance and bring to the shelter, or fill out at the shelter in person.
ADOPTION FEES Cats have an adoption fee of $80 ($85 if paying with PayPal). This fee includes their spay/neuter, their rabies shot (if they are old enough), their first set of annual shots and a feline leukemia test for adult cats. Dogs and puppies are $100 ($110 if paying with PayPal), this also includes the animal's spay/neuter and first shots. Adopters may be responsible for their new animal's booster shots, if the animal has not been with us long enough to receive them. To pay by long distance through PayPal - please click on the 'Make a Donation' button directly below.
